Friday of the Third Week of Easter

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of man and drink His Blood, you have no life in you (John 6:53)”. The direct translation of this, is a call to the common Catholic practice of frequenting the Eucharist. The hush reality is that this actually translates to the actual suffering for the Kingdom of Heaven. Today, going to confession and receiving the Eucharist is trending: has become a fashion show or rather, a condition for prestige (Matthew 20:21b).

Well, if we underscore a line from the first reading (Acts 9:16), we recognise that Paul (Saul) must “eat and drink of this cup”, as the LORD says to Anani'as “[…] for I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of My Name.” Perhaps we need to inquire of ourselves, if we are truly prepared to eat of this bread, and drink of this chalice (Matthew 20:22, 23)?

God bless you!
